Support Small Business Saturday, November 24, 2012

Saturday, November 24, 2012 has been set aside as 'Small Business Saturday.' It is a day where people throughout the United States are encouraged to take their business to small businesses, rather than the big-box stores.

As a small business owner myself, I think the awareness that Small Business Saturday brings to the entrepreneurs Cash registeramong us is fantastic.  It isn't easy to compete against the 'big guys.' I find that even in the real estate business; there are some people who are just more comfortable with the big names.

According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, 2 out of every 3 jobs in this country are created by small businesses. Supporting the businesses that create jobs is important for every one of us.

If you are planning to do some shopping tomorrow, or maybe if you are throwing a dinner party, think about how you  could support a local small business.

Get out and support small business in your community tomorrow!

In our little town of 8,000 people, shopping small is "The Right Thing" to do!

Shop local, keep it up close and friendly with your neighbors, local business providers. Small business is the economic engine of the country.

I am looking forward to shopping at a couple of locally owned shops tomorrow. They have been on my list for a while!  I hope tomorrow will be a huge success for those shop owners and they gain a few extra loyal shoppers as well.

This is a great reminder.  Supporting small business is very important.  Our economy depends on small business.

I couldn't agree more.  This holiday season has become so commercialized, it is gotten crazy.  I just wrote a post on what our small town's development department is doing for small business shopping.

Thanks Holly, it is good to support the businesses in our community, especially if we want to continue to have a community.

I love the idea of Shop Small.  I hope it becomes as much as a tradition in our society as Black Friday.  Small business owners contribute so much character to our communities.  This is a way we can give back to what makes our communities unique!

My father waas a merchant and he taught us to "spend your money where you make it".

Keep it in the community, right Chris and Dick? I try to shop local all I can. It may cost a little more sometimes but the quality and feeling is much better. Instead of just "buying" something I feel i'm also helping someone.

Holly:

I consider it my civic duty to shop locally.  I am on the board of our local business association and I want those businesses to survive and thrive.  Shop locally, shop small.

Great topic Holly.  I gave up Black Friday years ago for Small Business Saturday, and I'm so glad I did.  Happy Holiday Shopping everyone.

Holly, I will be out tomorrow in support of the local small businesses in Franklin TN. We have a thriving historic downtown area and it's because of people like me who keeps these businesses going.

Holly, there seems to be a lot of support for Shopping Small Business Saturday on the local TV channels here in Fort Worth/Dallas.  Both for tomorrow and this weekend, but also just as a normal activity, as well.  I think that is just great.

Holly - I love the idea of small business Saturday, perhaps because, like you, I own a small business as has my family for generations.
