UPDATE: Do Not Call My Cell Phone

Since I posted this yesterday, I have been told it is a hoax. I just went onto Snopes.com (which I usually do to check out this sort of thing--but for some reason did not do yesterday) and there is a LINK that explains that this is one of those hyped-up situations that someone felt compelled to put into an email and it has gone viral. Sorry for the trouble.  Lesson learned...always check the facts!

I know that I am very busy fielding calls from clients, friends and family on my cell phone. The last thing I need is to start getting calls from telemarketers on it, too. The instructions below tell you how to block these calls.

Via Wende Schoof ~ Wende by the Bay (Keller Williams Realty Menlo Park, CA):

Did you know that Cell Phone Numbers Go Public this month and that telemarketing companies will now be able to get all those numbers for  sales calls, too?  Nothing wrong with a little cold calling, right?  What if it costs you to receive that call?  Because you will be charged unless you have unlimited calling, since it's your cell phone.

To avoid those annoying and possibly expensive calls, call the  National DO NOT CALL List from your cell phone.  888-382-1222.
I just did it, and it took under 60 seconds. You have to call from the phone number you want to have blocked. It blocks your number for five (5) years.

Glad to help...I just sent a group text message with the number to my kids and husband! That way they can just click on the number and call.

I'll have to find out if they are going public in Canada anytime soon too I guess - but we did have a national do not call list recently implemented here for all phones, those who signed up early unwittingly just put themselves on every call-centers lists everywhere as the marketers all decided to use the information to fill out their databases rather than abiding by the law stating they were to eliminate everyone on the list from their databases. Hip-hip-hooray for capitalism at its finest!!!

As a real estate professional, my cell phone is considered a business phone and I don't think it is covered by federal dnc laws.  Also, the original blogger has acknowledged the discredit given to the "cell numbers go public this month" rumor.  Here's a snopes link.

Many of the telemarketers are probably harvesting cell numbers from our websites and printed ads.

I will typically remind telemarketers that I'm on the do not call list when thy try to sell me something over the phone.
