Bringing Awareness to the Issue of Water: Today is World Water Day, 3/22/10

I  have often said that in the future our wars will be about the shortage of water. Everyone needs water to survive and our ability to continue to have enough food will depend on distribution of this resource.

Today is World Water Day organized by the UN Water Group. This event came out of the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in Rio de Janeiro.

There are a number of world-wide events scheduled to bring awareness to this global issue. One event that is mentioned on the website is the World's Longest Toilet Queue to focus the world on the issues of global sanitation.  If you are interested in being a participant--and going for the Guinness World Record--there is more in formation at the World's Longest Toilet Queue site. Looks like from the site map, the closest location near Virginia is Edison, New Jersey.

For more information about World Water Day, be sure to check out their website.

Remember, water is a resource that we must have to live...do your part to conserve.

I had no idea that today is World Water Day. I'm doing my part though, as I do every day! Water conservation is part of my daily ritual.

Holly, I didn't know that there was a day for this. Thats great!

I lived in New Mexico for a while in the 1990's and prior to moving there I had no idea there could be scarcity of water. I was stunned at how scarce it was there. Wells were drying up and they were constantly talking about the fight for water from the Rio Grande. We do take it for granted that it will always be there for us. But if we don't stop and thing everytime we turn on the tap, we will run out at some point.

Since living in NM I have become more and more conservative of my water usage and my bill is very small now. I would hope that we could all dom the same.

Thanks for letting us know of the day!
