Maybe it is me, but the way the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays fell this year, I have been scrambling to get everything done in time for Christmas. Part of my plan was a solid last minute shopping effort this weekend, as well as Monday and Tuesday.
Surprise! My holiday gift this year is clearly going to be an opportunity to rethink the madness and figure out how to make-do without the last minute consumer scramble; you see, we are expecting a major winter storm--maybe the worst December snowstorm in 30 Years!
I guess I will be giving my neighbors homemade cookies instead of store bought gifts. They will probably like them better anyway!
I guess those last minute stocking stuffers will have to be more creative than what I can find at Target. Do we really need all that 'stuff?'
I guess I will have time to get my Christmas cards sent before New Year. And I might have time to add a note or two!
If we get the storm they are predicting, the Washington DC area will shut down for 2 or 3 days. The area cannot deal with snow and many people have neither the vehicle nor the experience to drive in it. We traded in our 4 wheel drive truck a couple of years ago, so our vehicles are not terrible, but not great in the snow.
So I will put on my Christmas music, get the fireplace going, gather the family around and we will do our
Christmas cards, bake our cookies, play in the snow and get out the board games.
Yes, Holly, there is a Santa Claus!

And a big Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you from beautiful sunny Lakeland Florida. And I still believe in Santa, how else does it all come together for Christmas morning.
The cooking the fireplace and the Christmas songs on the entertainment center is a tradition and a good one.
Holly,
I remember some of those area shut-downs from when I lived in DC! Sounds like you and the family will enjoy some quiet quality time - always a holiday bonus.
Sounds like the perfect Christmas to me! I'm sure many in your area are not taking the weather as calmly as you are. Enjoy!
I guess I'll still have to do my pre-holiday scamble because the weather man have predicted 100% chance of no snow and 74 degrees today here in Phoenix. (Was that a mean? If it was, you can get back to me in June when you are in 70 and I am in 100 degrees weather)
I saw the weather report and thought exactly the same thing! This can't be good for all that last minute holiday shopping...But you're a resourceful gal. You'll get those stockings stuffed and those homemade cookies are probably going to be more appreciated than "stuff" anyway!
Happy baking!
Great post Holly......I remember someone telling me once "People won't remember what you bought them or what you did for them, but they will always remember how you made them feel". Good luck with the cookies!!!
Holly, it is snowing here in West Virginia...started about 2:30 pm and have an inch on the ground. We are expected to get 8-12 inches. Like you, I plan to do some baking. I lived in the Washington DC area for 31 years and know how people drive...or don't drive in the snow.
Holly - sounds absolutely perfect. I bet it will be a Christmas that your family will remember for years to come.
Merry Christmas.
