I am the kind of person that keeps organization stores in business. A trip to The Container Store is a dream come true for me! My house is filled with baskets, bins and
containers that once held the promise of being the perfect solution. Most of them work out pretty well--for a while. But for some reason, I cannot leave well enough alone, and I am always trying to implement 'process improvements' that usually involve a change of containers. Of course with a family of 5 and a dog, there are always plenty of things to contain!
Right now I am happily sitting at my computer with all of the books, files and debris that I have removed from my bookshelves and desk on the floor behind me. I need to reorganize. I need to clean-out, sort through and put away. I have found the best way to do this is put it all in the center of the room where I cannot ignore it. These projects take on a life of their own because all the books I take out of here, and from which I am not willing to part, must go to live elsewhere in my house...
But instead of jumping in, I am writing this blog. Why? Because right this second, all of these containers I just bought are PERFECT! As soon as I start re-organizing, their inadequacies will start to show and the cycle will begin again.
My 17 year-old daughter just walked in to my office and told me that all this disorganization stresses her out...and the next generation of The Container Store customers is born!

It feels great to be organized and I loved shopping at the Container Store in Tyson's Corner when I lived in NOVA. Now if we can only keep it organized. . .
Holly
I would hate for you to be around my "stuff". It would drive you crazy. Stuff everywhere. I didn't even know they had a container store.
Holly, we don't have a container store. I spent too long at the local Walmart recently looking for airtight containers for my pasta in the pantry. Never really liked what I found.
I too love boxes/ containers/ drawers to keep my "stuff" under control.
And, it's so funny, but sometimes I put my things in unavoidable places so I HAVE to take care of them right away too!
If you have any coupons left over from your trip to the Container Store, please send them my way!!!
Holly, I love this post as we are always trying to find a way to containerize all the loose items in our home. I have to tell you that where we live, the "17 year-old daughter" is the source of the biggest mess of stuff!
Holly -
Loved your post! When shopping for the "perfect" container, I usually (when I'm LUCKY) find ones that may kinda-sorta work but aren't exactly what I had in mind. What did I have in mind??? Heck if I know! I just know I'll know it when I see it and none of the containers I find ever seem to be IT.
Same with purses. HOW do you find one that is big enough for everything you need, with enough rummaging room to find what you need, yet small and light enough to avoid painful shoulder surgery??
Oh, the humanity.
Hi Holly ~ We are birds of a feather. I've loved office supply stores all my life and swooned when I first read about The Container Store. I first visited one on a road trip to take a CRS class in PA. I started down the aisle, having skipped getting a cart, but wheeled around to get one before I was finished with the first aisle. I barely had room for myself in the car by the time I was done - and it was a long trip! We got our own store two or three years ago thank goodness.
I'm trying to keep myself out of those stores. I always think more organizing or storage solutions are the answer but it's never so.
