This Young Man is an Inspiration!

If you have a second to read this essay, please do so. It was written by a young man, Cole Sydnor, who was paralyzed in a tragic accident on the James River, Richmond, VA, in August of 2011. His perseverance and attitude should be an inspiration to us all. His campaign to encourage young people to think before they dive will hopefully save lives. If you feel inspired to cast a vote for Cole's essay and share with your contacts, even better!

Before posting this, I shared it with Cole's mom, Kelly. She mentioned how happy they are that Cole's campaign to educate young people about the dangers of diving into the water has already saved one young man. Thinking about Cole's experience, this boy decided to go into the water feet first. He was still injured, but not as catastrophically as he would have been had he chosen to dive. He ended up breaking his tibia and underwent nearly a year of casting and rehab. Had he gone into the river head first, he would either be dead or paralyzed. When he phoned his mother from the hospital ER he said, "I didn't dive, Mom. I thought of Cole and didn't dive." The fact that he is making a difference in people's lives means the world to Cole.

A former lacrosse player, Cole has been helping coach his high school team and will attend college next year at the University of Richmond. Any of you familiar with U of R know that it is a fantastic--but not inexpensive--college. My husband and I have known Cole's Dad since college and have watched as Cole has overcome huge obstacles to establish this new life for himself and his family. I have no doubt that he will be an incredibly successful young man.

Cole's essay is, NO what UR Divin' N2! Enjoy the essay and spread the word!
